According to daynight.gr on the afternoon of September 22, 2025, a coast guard patrol boat in pursuit of a speedboat off the cost of Farmakonisi carrying asylum seekers, resulted in a severe head injury to a 42-year-old woman, on board with her husband and their two children. The woman was transported to the ICU in Heraklion, Crete and the injured daughter to a Children’s hospital in Athens.
During the time of their hospitalization, the husband requested our help in contacting agencies in regards to their health. Volunteers of the organization Thalassa of Solidarity – Θάλασσα Αλληλεγγύης contacted the hospital in Heraklion, providing us with the status of the mother’s health and the organization RSA information on the daughter’s condition. Unfortunately the woman succumbed to her injuries a few days later. The family decided to have the funeral performed in Komotini. RSA provided the legal and social support as well as help with the bureaucratic process of transporting the body from Heraklion.
We, Generation Outside Afghanistan, through our connections and long-standing experiences, strive to ensure that burials are carried out with the upmost dignity that every person deserves.
We once again thank Thalassa of Solidarity – Θάλασσα Αλληλεγγύης and RSA, as well as friends and compatriots, who dedicated their time. We, Generation Outside Afghanistan and Afghans Empowered, strive to be the voice of refugees wherever they are located, always accepting to listen to vulnerable people.
We express our deepest sorrow and condolences to the family of the deceased.
